Introducing the Masa Bittensor Subnet Incentivized Testnet in Partnership with CoinList
Masa is thrilled to announce the launch of the Masa Bittensor Subnet Incentivized Testnet in partnership with CoinList. This initiative invites all miners to participate, providing data and compute resources to earn their share of a 3,000,000 MASA token reward pool.
Masa just announced the launch of the Masa AI Data Subnet on Bittensor. This announcement marks the convergence of two pioneering forces in decentralized AI. Bittensor’s global brain is about to get a whole lot smarter, with the arrival of Masa’s global data network, ushering in the next generation of AI.

How the Incentivized Testnet Works
Miners will provide data and compute resources to the Masa Bittensor Subnet. The top-performing 256 miners at any given time will earn rewards based on their contributions. Performance is based on the amount of data, quality of data, and compute processing power miners provide to the network. All rewards are calculated programmatically throughout the entire duration of the testnet campaign.
The Masa Bittensor Incentivized Testnet Invites you to:
- Test and Optimize: Rigorously test and optimize the Masa Bittensor Subnet’s capacity, resilience, and performance.
- Lay the Foundation: Prepare for a successful mainnet launch.
- Earn Rewards: Win your share of the 3,000,000 MASA token rewards pool.

Open Participation and Rewards
Open Participation: Everyone is welcome to join the Incentivized Testnet.
Performance-Based Rewards: The top-performing 256 miners at any point in time will earn a share of the 3,000,000 MASA rewards pool. All rewards are performance based and programmatically calculated.
Hardware Requirements: Participants need devices with 2 vCPUs, 8GB RAM, 10GB storage, open ports 4001 (TCP/UDP), and 8080 (TCP). No KYC is required.
Reward Distribution: Final rewards will be published on a public Dune Dashboard on September 3rd, 2024. Rewards will be delegated to a validator and distributed at the Masa Protocol mainnet launch in Q4 2024.
Incentivized Testnet Timeline
The Masa Bittensor Incentivized Testnet runs from July 9th to August 20, 2024, with key milestones including:
- July 9, 2024: Registration opens, the testnet begins, and miners start earning rewards.
- August 20th, 2024: Testnet concludes.
- September 3rd, 2024: Final rewards published on a public Dune Dashboard.

About the MASA Token
MASA is the utility token powering Masa’s decentralized AI ecosystem. It is earned by contributing data, compute, and validation to the network. Key uses of MASA include:
- Staking Rewards: Validators, Miners, and Oracle Nodes stake MASA to participate.
- Emissions: MASA is distributed to contributors based on the value they add to the network.
- Fees: Oracle Nodes pay MASA, stablecoins, or other tokens to consume data and LLM services. Non-MASA fees are swapped to MASA tokens, with a portion burned.
- Governance: MASA holders can stake or delegate stakes to participate in governance, voting on proposals like technical upgrades and fee structures.
Incentivized Testnet FAQs
How long is the Incentivized Testnet?

What are the Hardware Requirements to participate in the Incentivized Testnet?
Hardware Requirements: 2 vCPUs, 8GB RAM, 10GB storage, open ports 4001 (TCP/UDP) and 8091 (TCP); No KYC required
Will I earn MASA & TAO rewards?
For the incentivized testnet, participants will earn MASA rewards only, from a reward pool of 3,000,000 MASA tokens. All participants will be set-up and ready to mine on mainnet to earn dual MASA-TAO rewards once mainnet goes live.
How are rewards calculated?
The top-performing 256 miners at any given point in time will earn a share of the 3,000,000 MASA token rewards pool. The higher your performance, the more rewards you earn. Performance is based on the amount of data, quality of data, and compute processing power miners provide to the network. All rewards are calculated programmatically over the entire duration of the testnet campaign.
How and when will rewards be distributed?
Rewards will be delegated to a validator and distributed at Masa Protocol mainnet launch, which is targeted for Q4 2024.
How do I report bugs or issues during the Incentivized Testnet?
All participants can report bugs and issues to our Github here: https://github.com/masa-finance/masa-bittensor/issues
Do you have a community and/or support channel for Incentivized Testnet participants?
Join our Masa Bittensor Subnet Discord channel to connect with the community and get support. Join our Discord server here: https://discord.com/invite/HyHGaKhaKs and join the dedicated testnet community at #node-bt.
Do the recent events surrounding Bittensor mainnet impact my participation or rewards?
No. The Masa testnet is a separate dev-net that can only be used by testnet participants.
Are my rewards SAFU?
Yes, your rewards will be distributed on the Ethereum chain which is not impacted.
About Masa Bittensor Subnet
Masa is the decentralized network for Fair AI, where people earn by contributing data. AI developers are empowered to build anything, anywhere with the world’s data. Masa is backed by Digital Currency Group, Anagram, Animoca, and incubated by Binance and Hashkey. Masa was the first AI project to debut on CoinList Token Sale in 2024, with a viral 17-minute sale.
Bittensor is a decentralized, peer-to-peer artificial intelligence network designed for the creation, sharing, deployment, and training of machine learning models. With its sophisticated TAO economic model that incentivizes the decentralized production of high-value artificial intelligence, Bittensor has become a force to be reckoned with. Since its launch in March 2023, Bittensor has grown into one of the first $10-billion AI ecosystems. Currently, there is 5.7 million staked $TAO in total, worth $1.48 billion.
Data is the new currency of the AI economy. With many proprietary and open source options, general purpose LLMs are converging, becoming commoditized, and are in a race to the bottom. The most valuable AI applications will be the most specialized ones that leverage real-time data for up to date context and subject specialization. Specialized AI applications require huge amounts of specialized AI training data that is constantly up to date.
The Masa Bittensor Subnet provides real-time and static, structured, annotated, and vectorized data from a variety of data sources critical for AI development, such as X (Twitter), Discord, diarized speech (e.g. podcasts, YouTube, TikTok), gated web data (e.g. New York Times), and public web data (e.g. Google Search).
Real-time data can be used to build robust datasets or used directly in system prompts, providing up to date context to LLMs. Static data sets are constantly updated and stored by subnet workers for further processing into vectors to fuel Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) in AI agents. These data sets are processed and annotated using agentic data pipelines that employ fine-tuned LLMs trained on JSON and other formats to deliver high-quality outputs from volatile data inputs.
Join our mission to create Fair AI, powered by the people.
